CFP: "Rhetoric and Argumentation in the Beginning of the 21st Century," University of Coimbra, October 2-3, 2008.

The research unit 'Linguagem, Interpretação e Filosofia' ('Language, Interpretation and Philosophy') of the 'Fundação Portuguesa para a Ciência e a Tecnologia-FCT' (the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) is holding an international conference to commemorate the publication in 1958 of The New Rhetoric: a Treatise on Argumentation by Chaim Perelman and Lucie Olbrechts-Tyteca and Stephen Toulmin's The Uses of Argument. The aim of this conference, along with the study of the impact of these books on rethoric and contemporary theories of argumentation, is to take stock of the current state of these disciplines.
